Bx9 bus riders on edge after assaults on line

Posted: Updated:

Riders who take the Bx9 bus say they're concerned for their safety after the second attack in three months on the line happened last week. Passengers and the Transit Workers' Union are now calling for better security on city buses.

Last week, a bus driver was grabbed and punched by a passenger. It was the second attack on the bus line since June, when another driver was repeatedly beaten and hit in the face by a passenger. Police are currently looking for the suspect in the most recent attack.

Bus riders suggested putting police officers on buses, similar to when they ride train lines. The Transit Workers' Union says it will put pressure on the MTA to consider installing bus partitions and security on all city buses.
