FEMA disaster recovery center to open Monday

Hurricane Irene caused a lot of damage throughout the borough when she blew through last month, but Bronx residents will soon find help paying for the damage to their homes and businesses.

After the storm, FEMA declared The Bronx one of four counties eligible for disaster relief. On Monday, FEMA and New York State will open a disaster relief center at Borough Hall.

Individuals and business owners who suffered damage from the storm, can apply for financial assistance.

To apply for the federal aid residents will need to provide the address of the damaged property, names and Social Security numbers of those living in the household, a general description of the damage and insurance coverage details.

The center will stay open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 5p.m. until Oct. 2.

Organizers recommend that you apply with FEMA before you visit the disaster recovery centers.
