Residents protest possible post office closures

Bronx residents angry over a budget cutting proposal to shut down post offices across the borough are taking to the street to voice their opposition.

They gathered outside post offices on Dreiser Loop and Layfayette Avenue.

The postal service says the need for post offices is dwindling with many people doing their business online. But protesters say closing 17 Bronx post offices would be devastating for senior citizens and residents with handicaps. For some the nearest post office would be more than a mile away.

No word on when a final decision on the closures will be made.
