BX landlord refutes claims of deplorable conditionsPosted: Updated:
The Webster Avenue landlord being sued by two tenants for alleged deplorable apartment conditions says there's more to the story than what the plaintiffs have claimed.
Yesterday, tenants living at 2097 Webster Ave. showed News 12 The Bronx gaping holes in their ceilings, spores of mold covering their walls and rat-infested units. They claim their landlord, Lucel Maxwell, refuses to fix the problems in the building that has over 240 open violations.
Today, Maxwell spoke out against those allegations. He says the tenants in question refuse to let him come inside the apartments to repair the problems, and that they haven't paid him rent in over a year.
Maxwell also claims he's spent over $200,000 in repairs to the building and the one he owns next door. He says he has filed paperwork with the Sheriff's Office to start eviction proceedings for the two tenants who haven't paid rent.
