Parents: Daughter's gate accident could have been avoided

The parents of a 7-year-old girl who was killed when she was crushed by her apartment complex?s iron gate claim the fatal accident could have been avoided.

According to Keyri Castoire's parents, the little girl?s death could have been avoided had the landlord stabilized the gate.

The tragedy occurred when Keyri was playing in front of her building when the gate came crashing down onto her. She was pronounced dead at Jacobi Medical Center.

Other residents tell News 12 The Bronx that they have repeatedly told the landlord that the gate was unstable, rocking back and forth at the slightest tug. The Department of Buildings has issued a violation to FTS Property LLC for failure to maintain the fence.
