Local teens help clean up the Bronx River

A group of local teens with 'Rocking the Boat' recently helped to clean up the Bronx River by planting a grassland filter along the shore.

Adam Green, executive director of Rocking the Boat, says it is like a filter in any other form because the grass clings to pollution in the water allowing clean stuff to flow through.

The $350,000 project is in the "ABC Home and Carpet's" backyard. The 300-foot long pipe will bring storm water from the parking lot, into the trough and to the wet land. The plants will weed out to chemicals in the storm water, filtering it.

The state attorney general's office, the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and the ABC Carpet and Home pitched in to support the project.
