Pelham Gardens residents want dirty lot cleaned up
Pelham Gardens residents say a city-owned lot has become a dumping ground and want the Department of Sanitation to clean it up.
Residents say unkempt grass and weeds lead passersbys to believe they can dump trash in the lot on Waring Avenue.
Neighbor Anthony Vitaliano says teenagers have been hanging out in the lot ever since the Department of Sanitation stopped cleaning the area. He says crews used to come to the area twice a year to cut the grass, but that no one has done that in almost a year.
A Department of Sanitation spokesperson says the department is checking with its lot-cleaning unit to discuss the property and that a crew will be dispatched to clean it up on Monday.
