NYC Transit comes to a screeching halt ahead of Hurricane Irene
For the first time in the city's history, all mass transit systems were shut down ahead of Hurricane Irene.
There is no subway or bus service citywide. Also, commuter rail services like the Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad were shut down as well.
At a press conference, Mayor Michael Bloomberg says service likely won't be restored until Monday evening at the absolute earliest.
Until mass transit services are restored, residents will have to find alternate means to travel.
