MTA: Subway service back after Irene leavesPosted: Updated:
The MTA has resumed subway service as of 6 a.m. after Tropical Storm Irene forced an unprecedented system shutdown.
The agency says commuters should expect delays and fewer trains will run than in a normal morning rush.
Officials say the city escaped much of a punishing blow from the storm. There were minimal signs of damage to the overall system and most subway tunnels did not flood.
