Beach cleanup begins after holiday weekend

Beaches and parks were littered with garbage Tuesday as officials say the holiday weekend brought scores of residents outside.

The Department of Parks and Recreation says it cleaned up the area beaches after residents celebrated the Fourth of July weekend.

Neighbors at many Bronx beaches say they saw Styrofoam containers, plastic bags and empty soda bottles strewn across the beaches. They say there are too many beachgoers and not enough trash cans.

The parks department says it started cleaning at 7 a.m. and began at the playgrounds.
