Walmart pledges $5M toward summer youth jobs program

Walmart is pledging $5 million to help teens in the borough get jobs for the summer.

The donation is the largest private donation in the history of the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP).

The program places young people at camps, parks, government agencies, hospitals and senior centers throughout the city for the summer months.

The donation will create thousands of summer jobs in all of the boroughs.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg says without the donation from Walmart, the SYEP would not have been able to employ as many youths.
