Tenants blocked from having town hall forum

Concourse Village tenants are outraged after the cancellation of a town hall forum that was organized to discuss proposed rent hikes.

The forum was to be hosted by Assemblyman Eric Stevenson, but it was scrapped by the company managing the Concourse Village building complex.

Hundreds of tenants, as well as Stevenson, were blocked from entering the complex by security officers. Stevenson addressed tenants and shareholders outside, where they protested two rent increases proposed for this year.

Elected officials and tenants have voiced concerns about seniors, saying they will be forced to starve or be homeless.

Tenants and Stevenson have filed motions of appeal to the Department of Housing and Community Renewal.
