Bronx residents look to beat the heatPosted: Updated:
Bronx residents looked to beat the heat Monday as temperatures soared to 90 degrees.
The Office of Emergency Management opened cooling centers throughout the borough and is prepared to take in those people who don't have air conditioning. OEM officials urged residents to take extra care of the elderly and young children.
Some Bronx businesses say they get a boost when temperatures soar as more people are looking for cooling drinks and areas with air conditioning. Residents who had to be outside Monday were urged to slow down, stay out of the sun as much as possible and drink plenty of water.
