Same-sex couples tying the knot to hit record Sunday

Officials say the number of couples who will tie the knot Sunday will be the highest in the city?s history.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced today that due to high demand for marriage services the city will conduct a public lottery for any couple wishing to marry on Sunday. The lottery opened for entries at noon and will close to entries at noon on July 21.

There will be a separate lottery for each of the City Clerk's five borough offices and lottery applicants must specify one - and only one - office where they wish to marry. Winners of the lottery will be notified via e-mail or phone on July 22 by noon. Those who have pre-registered already must also sign up for the lottery to get married this Sunday.

Couples wishing to marry on July 24 must register for the lottery by going to the City Clerk's website at nyc.gov or by calling 311.
