Triple-digit temperatures stifle the boroughPosted: Updated:
Temperatures rose into the triple digits in some parts of the borough today as a heat wave continues to stifle the region.
The National Weather Service has issued excessive heat warnings for a huge section of the country, forecasting temperatures near or above 100 degrees right through the weekend.
Many Bronx residents say they're coping with the heat by staying indoors as much as possible. In Hunts Point, which is normally crowded with people, only a few were spotted out in the sun this afternoon.
City officials advise residents to stay hydrated, keep away from strenuous activity during peak hours and wear light clothing to avoid heat-related illnesses. Signs of heat illness include nausea, exhaustion and dizziness.
