Stiffer penalties in store for drivers passing school buses
Lawmakers are trying to pass legislation that would impose stiffer penalties on drivers who pass stopped school buses.
The bill would install cameras on school buses which could catch photographic evidence of drivers trying to go around the stopped vehicle. The proposed law would issue harsher fines for those who injure a child.
Statistics from the state show that from 2002 to 2007, 75 children were injured by drivers while getting on or off a bus.
