Thousands protest fire company closures in march to City Hall

Thousands of firefighters marched across the Brooklyn Bridge today to protest the proposed closures of fire companies.

Several protests have already been held against the proposed closures. Mayor Michael Bloomberg's proposed budget would close 20 fire companies throughout the city. Three of those are in The Bronx.

Engine 50 in Mott Haven, Ladder 52 on City Island and Engine 46 in Mount Hope are on the chopping block to help a financially strapped city budget.

Members of the Uniformed Firefighters Association and the Uniformed Fire Officers Association marched across the bridge to City Hall as part of the protest. Fire officials say closing down fire companies will reduce response times for emergencies.
