Montefiore Medical Center using new drug to fight skin cancer
Doctors at Montefiore Medical Center are using a new drug to help patients battle the deadliest form of skin cancer.
The director of the Montefiore Einstein Center for Cancer Care, Steven Libutti, says that for the first time, people diagnosed with inoperable melanoma have treatment options. The hospital participated in clinical trials for the drug Ipilimumab and is now using it in combination with chemotherapy.
Doctors say another drug not yet approved by the FDA is also promising. They say more research will show whether combing the two new treatments could prove even more effective for melanoma patients.
