Court overturns ex-NYPD cop's manslaughter conviction
An appeals court has overturned the decision involving a former Bronx cop convicted of second-degree manslaughter.
The court decided that former NYPD Officer Rafael Lora was justified in his actions during a fatal shooting of Fermin Arzu in 2007. Lora was sentenced to one to three years in prison.
The deadly incident happened after an allegedly drunken Arzu crashed his minivan into a parked car outside the officer's Bronx home.
Lora stopped and attempted to question Arzu, who then drove away as the officer clung to the car. Fearing for his life, Lora says he shot the man five times.
Lora?s attorney is now seeking to get him reinstated into the NYPD.
