NYC's rent control laws extended until midnight Tuesday

(AP) - The New York state Legislature has scheduledto continue negotiations on New York City's rent control laws afteragreeing to a temporary extension late Monday.

The new deadline for the 1946 law to lapse is midnight Tuesdaynight.

The Republican-led Senate wants to extend the rent control lawas it has been for years. The Democrat-led Assembly wantsimprovements.

Negotiations with Gov. Andrew Cuomo who also wants to bolsterthe law resulted in no agreement late Monday afternoon.
