NYPD: Rape complaints on the rise citywide
The NYPD says rape complaints are up dramatically across the city so far this year and some non-profit organizations say they are trying to do their part to combat the increase.
The NYPD says there have been 72 reported rapes in The Bronx so far this year, up from 60 at this time last year.
Experts say the increase is due to more awareness about sexual assaults, which leads to more victims coming forward.
Dr. Brigitte Alexander, the director of the sexual assault response team at North Central Hospital, says she's working with the NYPD to help make reporting a sexual assault easier for victims.
Members of the NYPD Special Victims Unit say they're also adding more detectives to combat sexual assault.
