BX workers rally for better pay, benefits

Many Bronx residents are coming together to rally for better pay and benefits for local workers.

Protesters gathered outside the office of Councilman James Vacca today to urge him to sign the Fair Wages for New Yorkers Act. Vacca is the only Bronx official not to sign the act, which was proposed by Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr.

Under the bill, employers who collect more than $100,000 in city money would be required to pay at least $10 an hour plus benefits to employees.

Vacca says he is waiting until after a City Council hearing on May 13 to sign the bill.
