Tax deadline right around the corner

The deadline to file taxes for 2010 is just three days away. The deadline was extended due to a local Washington, D.C. holiday, Emancipation Day, that fell on the original deadline.

Bronx residents scrambled to finish taxes today. Some sought out help at Phipps Community Development Corporation, which offers free tax prep help. The corporation says it expects to surpass its goal of helping 1,600 people this year. In order for a Bronx resident to qualify for free tax prep, they must make less than $50,000 with children or less than $18,000 without children.

Phipps, which is located on Tremont Avenue, does not require appointments and it will be open on Monday from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m.

Residents can also receive help at the Food Bank for New York. One location, on East 181st Street, will be open Saturday from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., and Monday from 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. The south Bronx location, on 3rd Avenue, will be open Saturday from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

sorry to interrupt
