Police looking for Cypress Avenue shooter

Police are searching for the gunman who wounded a 20-year-old woman during a shootout Monday evening in South Bronx.

Bolivia Beck was shot in the head when she was caught in the crossfire outside a housing development on Cypress Avenue, police say.

The shootout, witnesses say, happened following a dispute between two groups of people from different housing developments. The area is considered an "impact zone" by the NYPD because of the high crime rate, and the shootout occurred before police started their nightly patrol of the area.

Beck, an employee at the Toys ?R? Us in Gateway Mall, is in critical condition at the surgical care unit in Lincoln Hospital, but she is expected to survive.

Police are asking for anyone with information about the shooting to call them at 1-800-577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
