BX councilman calls on pet owners to clean up after dogs
A Bronx councilman is calling on the city's Department of Sanitation to enforce more penalties for pet owners who don't pick up after their pooches.
According to Councilman Jimmy Vacca (D-13th District), piles of dog waste are becoming an increasing problem across the borough, with residents not owning up to their responsibilities as a dog owner.
Vacca says that over the last three years, the number of complaints called in to 311 about the issue has tripled, but the number of violations has plummeted by nearly half.
Residents caught not picking up after their pets can expect to pay upwards of $250 in fines.
