Pit bulls found in apartment fire being cared for by animal control

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) is currently caring for the 14 pit bulls rescued from an apartment during a fire on Grand Concourse yesterday afternoon.

Officials say the dog's owner, Otonade Burkett, was visited by animal control officers last month, but they only found five healthy dogs in the apartment.

ASPCA officials say that their investigation has not turned up any clues that the dogs were used for fighting. They are currently in contact with Burkett about the dogs.

The dogs are currently being cared for at a shelter and the ASPCA says that while the dogs are not up for adoption, it is looking for qualified people willing to be a foster homes for the dogs.
