Officer involved in fatal shooting of knife-wielding suspect
A police officer from the Bronx was involved in the fatal shooting of a knife-wielding suspect this morning in Morris Park.
Police say the officer was on foot patrol on Rhinelander Avenue when he received a call about an angry man wielding a knife in an apartment building. The man, 48-year-old Paul Goldreyer, lunged at the officer with the knife and he shot back hitting the victim in the chest, according to police.
Detectives confirm that Goldreyer had 16 prior arrests and was a mental patient living with a group of men in an apartment that belongs to FEGS, a mental rehabilitation firm from Manhattan.
The victim died at the scene. An investigation is ongoing.
