Ex-cop charged with 2nd-degree murder in wife's death
The former police officer accused of killing his wife has been formally charged with murder in the second degree.
Eddy Coello, a former housing officer, was indicted by a grand jury at Bronx Criminal Court today. Prosecutors say Coello strangled 40-year-old Tina Adovasio, a nurse and mother of four, before dumping her body in the woods near the Taconic State Parkway earlier this month.
According to the Bronx District Attorney's Office, there is forensic evidence, surveillance video and statements from Coello that supports the case against him. However, Coello's lawyer says he will plead not guilty to the charges and will not testify on his own behalf.
Coello is being held without bail and is scheduled to be arraigned on April 29. If convicted, he faces 25 years to life in prison.
