BX Egyptian community feels effects of political unrest
Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak has announced that he will not seek re-election come September in what is considered a huge victory for protesters in the country and in The Bronx.
Bronx residents have been glued to the television set at the Islamic Cultural Center of North America, hoping to find out new information about the political unrest unfolding in Egypt.
Sheikh Moussa Drammeh, the chairman of the center, says the turmoil stems from the public's frustration with the president's autocratic government.
Drammeh says the effects of the political unrest have already been felt in The Bronx?s Egyptian community. He says teachers have made the protests a major part of their lessons at the center.
