City issues blizzard of parking tickets

(AP) - Cars still encased in snow and ice got nospecial treatment.

New York City on Monday issued 9,910 parking tickets- twice theaverage number - as alternate-side parking regulations went back ineffect following a record month of snow.

Those summonses could bring the city as much as $437,000.

On an average day, the city doles out 5,460 tickets. That'sabout $241,000 in fines.

Alternate-side-of-the street regulations allow the SanitationDepartment to clean streets - and remove remaining piles of snow.
