Mayor Bloomberg announces new anti-truancy program

Mayor Bloomberg has announced a new program aimed at lowering the city's truancy rates.

The program, called WakeUp NYC, selects students at 25 schools throughout the city to receive a pre-recorded wake-up call from a celebrity.

Bloomberg said local radio stations will also encourage students to attend class every day on the air.

If the program is successful, the Department of Education will expand it to other schools across the city, Bloomberg said.
