Millions of hospital patients' records, information stolen
The personal information of nearly two million patients and hospital staff members has been stolen.
The Health and Hospitals Corporation said 1.7 million electronic files that contained information from people who went to Jacobi Medical Center, North Central Bronx Hospital and their two affiliated health centers over the past 20 years was taken and has not been recovered.
City Councilman Fernando Cabrera (D-14th District) says he's worried about what this could mean for those affected and hopes the hospital system takes security more seriously.
The hospital is offering a year of free credit-protection services to those affected. They say victims are being notified by mail, but an information hotline has been set up at 1-877-412-7148.
