BX businesses hope for record sales on Valentine's Day

It's Valentine's Day and many are saying 'I Love You' with flowers, chocolate and gifts.

Employees at local flower shops throughout The Bronx say they have been very busy this season. Several say they usually get about 200 orders for roses on an average weekend. However, that number jumps to 800 for Valentine's Day weekend.

Angela Dabenigno, who owns The Chocolate Place, says it takes her staff weeks to prepare for today. Dabenigno says her biggest sellers are chocolate-covered strawberries and pretzels, candy apples and chocolate hearts.

It is estimated consumers will spend $3.5 billion on jewelry, nearly $2 billion on flowers and another $3 billion on cards and candy.
