BX couple celebrates more than 50 years of love

A Bronx couple who has been married for nearly 53 years is rehashing how they fell in love this Valentine's Day.

Dolores and Ronaldo Gongaro say they became pen pals back in 1957. Ronaldo had just moved to the United States and Dolores still lived in their home country of Cuba.

The couple says they wrote to each other every day and quickly fell in love. Seven months later, without ever meeting in person, Ronaldo says he proposed.

The two were married by proxy in Cuba and later moved to The Bronx in the 1960s to raise their family.

The Gongaros say they plan to pass on their love letters to one of their daughters, who has promised to preserve them for future generations.
