MTA offers look into bus driver training program
After a recent bus accident that took the life of a pedestrian, News 12 The Bronx got an inside look at what kind of training MTA bus drivers go through.
Just last week, a 76-year-old man was run down by a Bx22 bus while crossing the street.
At a training center inside the Zerega Avenue bus depot, students are taking part in a six-week intensive training program.
Director of Training Clarence Howard says students go through several phases of training before they can graduate and that only about 75 percent of the class actually move on to become bus drivers.
A union representative says the bus driver involved in last week's incident is a 19-year veteran of the MTA and had a clean record.
