Speaker targets parking in city speech
(AP) - New York's City Council speaker addressed an issue New Yorkers love to hate: parking.
Christine Quinn delivered her annual State of the Cityaddress on Tuesday.
She proposed legislation to reduce the number of days withalternate-side-of-the-street parking regulations. It would apply tostreets that receive the highest cleanliness rating for twostraight years.
The speaker also proposed creating an interactive online map to show open parking spots.
The regulations require motorists to move their cars for streetsweepers on designated days. On many streets, the restrictions areissued for more than one day a week.
Quinn also plans to tackle another big motorist headache: unfairparking tickets. Under her proposal, if motorists can show aparking receipt, the ticket agent would be required to tear up theticket.
