Police search for 3 posing as Con Ed workers

Police are on the lookout for three men who are robbing the elderly by posing as Con Ed workers.

Police say the men enter a home asking to check the water meter. As one suspect detains the homeowner, two others typically ransack the home for cash and jewelry, according to police. In a burglary on Baychester Avenue, the suspects took a ring and badge from a victim.

The Bronx district attorney's office of elder abuse says seniors are often an easy target because they are at home during the day and often keep valuables nearby.

The office says residents should never open the door to a worker without verifying ID. If suspicion is aroused, a quick call to the company can verify whether the worker is legitimate.
