More than 5,000 tickets issued in NYPD distracted driving crackdown
Police have released the results of last week's crackdown on distracted driving. 
According to the NYPD, officers issued more than 5,000 tickets citywide as part of two-day effort to improve pedestrian safety. 
It says that more than 2,900 of the tickets were handed out for drivers using their cellphones at the wheel. 
About 1,000 were issued for texting and about 1,200 were given to drivers who failed to give pedestrians the right of way.
