Highbridge residents protest possible shelter for sex offenders

Residents of Highbridge were out in full force today, protesting a men's shelter that could possibly bring sex offenders to their neighborhood and put them in close proximity to a middle school.

The building was once a homeless shelter for women and children. Last fall, it turned into The Stadium Men's Shelter, leaving residents concerned that it could house sex offenders right across the street from a soon-to-be middle school.

The Department of Homeless Services couldn?t verify if there are currently any sex offenders living in the shelter. The department says that it has a legal mandate to provide shelter to families and single adults that are eligible.

Those protesting the shelter said that residents should have had more say on the changes.

The Stadium Men's Shelter is a transitional facility, only housing residents for three to four months.
