NYC declares weather emergency ahead of snowstorm
(AP) - New York City has decided not to declare a snowemergency ahead of the storm coming Tuesday night.
The city declared a lower-level "weather emergency."
A snow emergency declaration would have kept private vehicleswithout snow tires or chains off designated snow routes and bansparking along those routes.
The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning fromTuesday evening through Wednesday afternoon, with the heaviestsnowfall expected overnight.
New York City and its suburbs could get 8 to 14 inches of snow.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg's administration admitted during a CityCouncil hearing this week that declaring an emergency during thepost-Christmas blizzard might have been the better call.
The city last declared a snow emergency in 2005.
