FBI: Woman who raised child admits abducting her in 1987

The woman accused of kidnapping a baby from Harlem Hospital in 1987 and then raising her appeared in Manhattan Federal Court today.

According to a federal complaint released today, Ann Pettway confessed to snatching Carlina White after she suffered several miscarriages. The FBI says White was raised in Connecticut under the name Njedra Nance.

Pettway surrendered yesterday, days after a widely publicized reunion between the child she raised, now an adult, and the biological mother from the Bronx.

White suspected she was adopted and found her biological parents by locating her own photo on a missing persons list.

White's attorney says Pettway could face life in prison.
