Volunteers celebrate Earth Day by beautifying South Bronx
Volunteers gathered in Hunts Point to celebrate this week's Earth Day by beautifying the South Bronx.
Earth Day was officially this past Tuesday, but organizers say they decided to hold their own day since many children and parents cannot come out on weekdays.
In total, nine sites were set up around the neighborhood, with many of the 150-plus volunteers traveling from other parts of the borough to lend a hand.
The volunteers almost unanimously say they came out because they saw it as a great way to help out the borough and community.
After the beautifying efforts are complete, the teams will reconvene at Riverside Park to debrief the day's events.
