Health program uses cooking to fight chronic illnesses

A health program in the borough is using cooking demonstrations to help fight disease.
Urban Health Plan Inc. set up a demonstration kitchen at the Simpson Pavilion as part of a hands-on pilot program.
The goal is to teach those with chronic illnesses such as diabetes, asthma and hypertension how to eat healthy while savoring the flavor.
Patients have the chance to fire up the grill themselves while tasting their way to healthy living.
Cooking classes and lessons are all at the recommendation of clinic doctors and nutritionists.
