Residents hold candlelight vigil for local community center

Residents in Highbridge held a candlelight vigil Tuesday for a local community center that closed its doors six months ago.

The Highbridge Community Life Center served residents for over 35 years, providing GED classes, citizenship courses and ESL education.

News 12 is told when the center went into debt many lost jobs and their home away from home. Now leaders say their main goal is to help start the process of reopening the institution.

In an effort to keep the programs going, the Islamic Community Center in Highbridge has taken on a few of the courses the life center used to have. They say they want to help adult students continue their education in Highbridge.
