More mergers, closures possible for Catholic churches

Another round of mergers and closures is possible for Catholic churches in the Bronx.
In November, the Archdiocese of New York announced that 112 of its parishes would be consolidated to create 55 new parishes.
Now, the archdiocese is proposing to add another 38 churches to the list as part of its reconstruction plan. Of the 38 churches, some would either merge or close.
According to the archdiocese's website, Saint Joseph's, Saint Francis of Assisi and Saint Anthony's face proposed closures.
Also, Our Lady of Grace would no longer provide Mass and would merge with Saint Phillip and James
The affected parishes have until March 1 to respond to the archdiocese proposal with their concerns as to why their churches should stay open.
The Archdiocese of New York says the possible changes are just proposals and that no final decisions have been made.
