Celebration held to honor Our Lady of Guadalupe
A celebration was held in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe Sunday at Our Lady of Angels Church.
As the story goes, Our Lady of Guadalupe appeared to a young peasant on a mountaintop, asking him to build a church in her honor.
The bishop really didn't believe the man, so he asked Juan Diego for a sign. The blessed mother told him to cut roses, although it was an unusual time to have roses in the winter. Juan Diego brought the roses back in his cloak to the bishop, and when the he opened his coat, the bishop fell to his knees because the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe appeared.
Churchgoers say it was that image that converted so many people to the Catholic faith.
To honor the miracle, a mariachi band and dancers performed at Our Lady of Angels Church.
