Police: 2 officers attacked during protests
Two NYPD lieutenants were sent to the hospital after they were allegedly assaulted during protests on the Brooklyn Bridge Saturday night.
Police say the lieutenants were trying to arrest Eric Linsker, 29, who allegedly attempted to toss a garbage can from the bridge onto officers stationed below.
The lieutenants were treated for bumps, bruises and a broken nose.
Linsker, a Brooklyn resident, faces charges of assault on a police officer, reckless endangerment and resisting arrest.
Investigators say they found a backpack containing hammers and a black mask, which they believe belong to Linsker.
Mayor Bill de Blasio issued a statement on the incident, saying the violence "marks and ugly and unacceptable departure from the demonstrations thus far."
