Officials break ground on senior housing complex

A new senior housing development is coming to Highbridge.
Mayor Bill de Blasio, Cardinal Timothy Dolan and other local leaders attended a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday for Artsbridge, a senior housing project that will be located at Plimpton Avenue and West 172nd Street.
Renderings show what the complex is expected to look like. It will be designated for low-income residents who are at least 62 years old and may struggle to find affordable housing.
The project has been designed with the interests and needs of its future tenants in mind, offering a variety of support, including a community facility. The new building will also have 25,000 square feet of community space.
The new development is part of the city's larger effort to help with the housing crisis. The mayor and other public officials plan to add 200,000 affordable housing units around the city over the next 10 years.
Residents are expected to start moving in sometime in 2016.
