Gov. Kathy Hochul announced a record $35.9 billion in state education funding in the budget, which still needs to be approved by the state Legislature.
The governor also announced that the state will look into changes to foundation aid for next year’s budget.
Under the current law, school districts cannot receive less foundation aid than they did the year before, but the governor wants to change that to keep up with enrollment trends.
Local advocates warn school boards to plan ahead when coming up with this year’s budget.
