A man’s wallet blocked a bullet that was fired at him inside his car Wednesday morning in Coram, police say.
Officials say the man was sitting in a car at the Oakview Apartment Complex when someone shot at him multiple times around 11 a.m. He was uninjured.
Detectives say the shooting was not random.
"They were aiming for whoever was in the car, but I was over here just starting my gardening,” said a resident at the complex. “I heard this, and it's just ridiculous. I'm so upset about it."
The resident also told News 12 that she believes there should be better security at the complex.
A worker at the Oakview Apartments office told News 12 that a security guard is only present overnight.
When asked if they are considering increasing security following the incident, they replied “no comment."
Anyone with information is urged to call 1-800-220-TIPS.
